There’s no way we would have gone to Hawaii and not surfed, so we rented boards and jumped in the waters that gave birth that sport!
We did surf two spots, one beeing “Cove Beach” near to Kihei, and the second “Ho’okipa Beach” next to Pa’ia.
The first one is a great spot for beginners, and with the conditions we found was good for some longboarding. We actually got a great session here catching some fun “party waves” with other tourists, it’s always funnier to surf with friends! We rented our boards from the shop right across the street: Super friendly guys and boards in perfect conditions.
The second one, “Ho’okipa Beach”, is said to be a Mecca for Windsurfing when the wind is blowing, but even without a sail, the waves are awesome (definitely the best we surfed in Maui). And the fact that Sea turtles are always on the beach and in the water swimming peacefully among the surfers is an experience you can’t easily forget!
It’s also worth a mention that on the parking lot beside Ho’okipa there are some food trucks with the best Smoothies, Juices, Coconuts, and Sandwiches on the Island!
